Sydney’s buzzing William Street has welcomed a delicious new neighbourhood Italian, Vizio Caffé e Cucina. Located at the Hyde Park end of the vibrant strip, Vizio is a family owned and operated café and restaurant serving international breakfast and lunch and authentic Italian dinner.

Sydney Social 101 recently visited Vizio Caffé e Cucina for dinner and boy were are taste buds excited! We sat in the middle of the restaurant and were surprised that although we were on busy William Street we could not hear any outside noise. Instead we felt as though we were seated in a family home waiting for Nonna to serve us some of her famous homemade pasta.

We ordered an Italian bottle of red to get us started and to assist us in the ordering process. Vizio has become known for its delicious selection of Italian and Australian salumi and formaggi which are perfect to graze on while you decide what to order. With over ten cheeses to pick from, it is truly a cheese lovers paradise. The Aged Truffle Infused Cheese and the Soft Cheese with Cow’s, Sheep and Goat Milk would be my recommendations but I would also definitely recommend trying them all!

After much discussion we finally decided what to order. We started with the mini, cheese filled (yep! can’t get enough of cheese) arancini balls served with truffle mayo. The combination of the warm, gooey cheese the crunchy coating and the truffle made these little balls a crowd pleaser with my only complaint being that there needed to be more! Other entrees to consider include Traditional Grilled Lamb Skewers with Salsa Verde, Thinly Sliced Veal with ‘Tonnato’ Sauce + Capers and the Artisan Burrata Salad.

For mains we shared the Burrata Ravioli and Gnocchi Vongole e Broccolini. The ravioli pasta was handmade and filled with burrata and served with a delicious basil pesto and roasted hazelnuts. The ravioli was cooked to perfection and flavoursome and was presented like a work of art. The homemade potato gnocchi was light and fluffy and was served with a truffle pecorino sauce filled with melt in your mouth clams and broccolini. On the side and as an extra bit of health we had the Sauted Greens with Garlic, Chilli and Vincotto. Green veggies with garlic and chilli is always the perfect combo and accompaniment and this did not disappoint. Other stand out mains included the Tagliatelle al Ragu and Whole Eggplant Parmigiana for vegetarians.

I have a sweet tooth and believe me, the dessert menu did not disappoint, so be sure to save room! We opted for the Italian pavlova with cinnamon Italian meringue served with caramelised figs and bergamot gelato. Not only did it look incredible but it also tasted incredible (I regret saying that I would share it with my partner). If I had room for a second dessert I definitely would have had the traditional Italian Tiramisu with layers of Chocolate Crumb and Almond Biscotto. Yum!

The drinks list is well considered with a wide selection of Italian and Australian wines by the bottle and over 25 by the glass, giving diners plenty to choose from. A solid beer list includes over 15 Italian craft beers, as well as some Aussie favourites. A small but perfectly formed cocktail list includes the Umberto I with basil infused Malfy gin, tomato water and smoked buffalo; and the Palma with Arette tequila, roasted capsicum, pineapple, Red Okar and turmeric soda.

As well as serving incredible Italian dinners, Vizio Caffé e Cucina is also open for breakfast and lunch. Every morning, Vizio Caffé e Cucina serves up fresh, hot espresso and delicious breakfast goodies from healthy Acai Bowls and Homemade Granola to luxurious Crab Benedict and decadent Pancakes with poached pear, fresh ricotta, walnut, maple syrup and chocolate crumb.

Lunch offers a selection of lighter dishes from a traditional Bruschetta through to the more modern Earthy Green Bowl with summer vegetables, red quinoa, crushed almonds, poached egg and ginger dressing. Those looking for a heartier feed will enjoy the Gnocchi Tricolore, Linguine Pesto e Gamberi or Beef Burger with all the trimmings.

Vizio is available for group bookings, private events and birthday parties for up to 80 people cocktail style or 60 seated. A sharing set menu, Nonna’s Menu, is also available for groups of six or more for $55 per person.
