It’s exciting times ahead for the lucky birthday kid, Pinot Palooza! They’re turning 5 this year and Dan Sims, Director of Bottleshop Concepts, and the Sommelier Roadies are determined to make this year’s the biggest and best yet Pinot Noir and music festival tour yet. They will be hitting Sydney Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide with a bonus first ever stop at Auckland. Not only will we be sampling some of the world’s best Pinot Noirs but there will also be some amazing food from Bodega, Belles Hot Chicken and the Yarra Valley Dairy. For those who want to take a break from sipping on their Pinot, Young Henry’s Beer will be there and joining in on our celebrations.
The folks from Pinot Palooza are all about celebrating and know that to properly taste our wines we need a proper glass. They’ve gone OTT on it for us with a gorgeous take home Plumm Vintage Red B glass (valued at $35). I tested this baby out with a couple tastes of Pinots last week and it was the most stylish way to wine taste our Pinot Noirs.
Keep an eye out on the day too, for the roving iPads for your chance to vote for your favourite Pinot Noir. You’ll be entered into the draw to win an awesome Plumm Decanter to match your take home glass. Perfect.
Pinot Palooza is all about the fun first and facts second, just ask Dan, he’s been in the industry for twenty years and a well-known wine commentator, educator and personality. At the launch last week he said “never before have people been more interested in wine and want to learn about it socially. If you love music, you go to concerts and you surround yourself in it.” That’s what Pinot Palooza is for wine drinkers.
For those who’ve been before you’ll be happy to know that the seven producers who’ve been at every year since the start – Curly Flat (Macedon), Dalrymple (Tasmania), Greywacke (Marlborough), Josef Chromy (Tasmania), Moondarra (Gippsland), Mount Difficulty (Central Otago) and Yabby Lake (Mornington Peninsula) – are back again for another round. If you’re looking for new favourites the 2016 Palooza line-up include renowned Australian and New Zealand wineries – Ata Rangi, Stefano Lubiana, Shaw + Smith, Maude, Kooyong Est, Chatto, Charteris, Giant Steps, Craggy Range and Pegasus Bay, plus many more.
VIP partiers should get in quick to try the limited VIP tickets ($95). You’ll be given a fancy lanyard that gives you exclusive access from 11.00 am – 1.00 pm, a food voucher, specially selected Burg Bar tasting (three wines) and to ensure your day is VIP, you’ll have your personally curated Pinot Palooza party designed by the Sommelier Roadies. According to your tastes and your preferences, they will suggest up to six wineries you need to explore at Pinot Palooza.
Whatever your party, you’ll definitely want to check out the Burg Bar whilst you’re there. In keeping with the big birthday celebrations it’s bigger this year with a shiny new look. And there’ll be more Burgundy from Pinot’s vinous homeland in France. Some of the world’s best wines, at cost price, will be there for your to taste so you really shouldn’t miss out on this. Plus some of Sydney’s best sommeliers are on hand to take Burgundy aficionado through these remarkable wines.
The party might not start till October but don’t miss out on your tickets – they’re on sale now and will sell out very soon if past years are anything to go by…
