Tacos, tequila and mariachi bands! Here are our top picks on where to celebrate Cinco De Mayo (5th May)- A Mexican day of celebration of the Mexican armies unlikely victory over the French in 1862!
Southern-Californian restaurant and bar SoCal Sydney will launch their inaugural seven-day Taco & Tequila Fiesta on Saturday 5th May to commemorate Cinco De Mayo! To kick off the week-long celebrations is the Cinco De Mayo Party on Saturday 5, with Mexican themed entertainment all day and in to the night, including free Mexican flower crowns and live music. In partnership with ALTOS Olmeca tequila, SoCal will be dressed to impress with Mexican styling and props – think cacti, picado banners, sombreros & Mexican wrestling masks! The week will consist of events including a Masterchef-esque ‘My Taco Rules!’ championship, live acoustic sessions (with a special Mariachi band appearance!), a street-art battle for charity, a taco & tequila degustation menu, all-you-can eat-tacos night plus more.
Applejack Group Executive Chef, Jason Roberson, has also teamed up with renowned pastry chef Andy Bowdy of Enmore’s Saga to create a bespoke dessert – the Helado Domingo consisting of sweet corn ice cream, Cajeta, buttermilk and pastel de elote. The Instagrammable dish is best described as a Mexican twist on a classic Sundae, and will be available exclusively at SoCal during May.
